TONKIN OR FRANCE IN THE FAR EAST
Charles Boswell Normal was born on January 9, 1846 in Calcutta, India. After the Bengal Staff Corps was established in 1861, he joined and was promoted to Captain in 1876.
In 1884, Chapman and Hall publisher released his book Tonkin or France in the Far East. Numerous topics are covered in the book, including the colonial Policy of France, Tonkin’s geography, customs, and history, the relationship between Tonkin and France, the expedition of M. Dupuis, and M. Garnier’s capture of the delta, as well as the treaties between Tonkin and France and the bond relations with China.
The history of Tonkin should be thoroughly covered for readers, along with a wealth of government records, official papers, and letters that can be used as references. Additionally, C.B Normal expressed his own opinions on the conflict between the Tonkin and the French, as well as on the France’s commercial interests and colonial policies.
